Veterinary and Animal Health Technician

 

NOC: 32104 (Animal Health Technologists and Veterinary Technicians)

 

Wage: $22 per hour – permanent/full-time (40 hours a week)

 

Location(s) of work: 945 Lorne Street, Kamloops, British Columbia, V2C 1X1 Canada.

 

Number of Positions: One (1)

 

Required Language Skills: English (spoken and written)

 

Key Responsibilities:

·        Provide nursing care and rehabilitation therapy for animals.

·        Handle, restrain and care for animals undergoing treatment and surgery.

·        Produce radiographs, collect, and analyse samples and perform other laboratory tests to assist in diagnosis of animal health problems as directed by veterinarian.

·        Assist veterinarian with animals before, during and following surgery by preparing surgical equipment, administering, and monitoring anaesthesia and analgesia and cleaning up after surgery.

·        Prepare and administer medications, vaccines and treatments under direction of a veterinarian.

·        Operate and maintain medical equipment.

·        Provide wound and bandage care.

·        Educate and advise clients on animal health care including nutrition and home care.

·        Assist in laboratory research.

·        Perform routine animal dental procedures and assist veterinarians with animal dentistry.

Required Skills:

·        Experience as a Veterinary Technician an asset.

·        Works collaboratively with hospital team members.

·        Makes decisions confidently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.

·        Communicate in a compassionate and professional manner with colleagues and clients.

 

Required Education:

·        Minimum of a college diploma in animal studies, veterinary technology or equivalent.

 

Required Certifications:

 

·        Not applicable for the Province of British Columbia
