Senior Target Systems Engineering Specialist

BASIC FUNCTION:

Support professional engineering activities Target and Ion Sources Department in an experienced role and take ownership of design, refurbishment, operation, and improvements of major accelerator target technology systems, requiring nuclear, accelerator, process, automation engineering experience.

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides professional leadership for nuclear target systems within the Targets and Ion Sources Department.
Provides design oversight, expert advice and hands-on support proactively to site wide accelerator target systems.
Provides leadership for target and ion source development within the TRIUMF TIS department.
Takes ownership of remote handling, and target system processes and proactively proposes and integrates improvements and refurbishments.
Proactively addresses safety concerns and takes initiative to guarantee compliance to regulations and TRIUMF’s nuclear operation license.
Work can includeSystem owner of complex infrastructure leading break-fix, proactive maintenance strategy, upgrades and long-term projects
Supervises and/or conducts target systems designs, mechanical simulations, prototyping and operation.
Provides expert oversight of processes and improvements.
Coordinates support and troubleshooting of on-line systems
Leads procurements of complex infrastructure
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Individual contributor role with an expectation to provide day-to-day leadership to diverse and multidisciplinary teams as part of leading major projects and initiatives.
Responsible for providing guidance, training, and mentorship to engineers, technicians, students, and post-docs.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

The position requires:

Expert understanding of accelerator target technologies, remote-handling principles and able to apply them to complex design, trouble-shooting and operational situations
Expert knowledge in area of expertise including tasks, processes and practises
Ability to explain/present complex ideas and present clear summaries of work progress/conclusions
Ability to write design notes or conference papers in support of complex projects
Ability to network with key industry contacts
NUCLEAR ENERGY WORKER (NEW):

Some work will require access to exclusion areas where there are activated components. The position requires the incumbent to be trained as a NEW. Training will be provided by TRIUMF.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Requires expert level in accelerator target system engineering, nuclear, process and material engineering, remote handling, and automation, all with demonstrated specialized knowledge and competence at an advanced level.

Has 8+ years of professional experience or equivalent in accelerator and target systems engineering.

Professional Engineering designation or eligibility to apply for P.Eng. designation in British Columbia.

Salary Range:

$86,100.00 – $107,600.00
