The Second Cook position is generally responsible for maintaining superior food quality and presentation expected by our guests according to company policies, procedures, programs, and performance standards.

Salary: $18.00 / hour (increments available as per service and experience)

Terms of employment: Permanent employment, Full time: 35-44 hours / week
Start date: As soon as possible
·         Benefits: Discounted hotel stays, Will be eligible to be covered by The Company’s benefit plan subject to the premium cost sharing arrangement in place as per current Hotel practice.

·        Employment conditions: Must be flexible to work in any shift including morning, day, evenings, weekends, holidays. Overtime is sometimes required.

Job requirements

Languages: English

Education: Education is an asset

Experience: 1 year to less than 2 years of culinary experience in food service or hospitality industry.

Credentials: Safe Food Handling certificate (can be obtained and provide within 3 weeks of commencing employment

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Fast-paced environment, Physically demanding, Standing for extended periods, Repetitive tasks, Work under pressure, Attention to detail, Exposure to heat, steam, cold, smoke. Ability to lift and carry a weight up to 23 kg

Personal Suitability: Judgement, Excellent oral communication, Organized, Initiative, Client focus, Dependability, Flexibility, Reliability, Detail-oriented and works with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, works well as a part of a team.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:

Reports to Executive Chef.

Report to work well groomed, in uniform, and at all times practice good personal hygiene.

Maintain a positive and professional attitude toward associates and guests.

Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances

Organize, prepare and maintain mise en place.

Serve menu items as per the standards, plating presentation and garnish.

Prepare meat, fish, vegetables and other foods for roasting, broiling, grilling, braising, sautéeing and steaming.

Portion food products prior to cooking per standard portion size and recipe specification.

Assist with cutting, precooking and marinating.

Constantly use safe and hygienic food handling practices.

Ensure all storage areas are tidy and all products are stored appropriately.

Compliance with all safety regulations of assigned tasks and ensure a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the health and safety program.

Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes and foods

Maintain a clean and sanitary workstation area including tables, shelves, grills, broilers, fryers, convection oven, flat top range and refrigeration equipment.

Additional duties as assigned by Executive Chef.

Demonstrated knowledge of guest service and a genuine desire to exceed guest expectations is required.
