Research Grants Specialist

The TRIUMF Office of Research Services (ORS) is responsible for providing administrative support to TRIUMF researchers with attracting and managing their grant funding, obtaining institutional signatures on grant applications, drafting and reviewing research and commercialization agreements or contracts, transferring funds to collaborators at other institutions, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines (such as controlled goods and research security), and more.

 

We are looking to hire a Research Grants Officer to join our team. The position is responsible for overall grant administration, including the development, review and submission of grant proposals.

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists with the development and submission of funding proposals
Completes all internal procedural requirements
Prepares and completes all institutional approval requests
Administers funding agencies’ portals.
Ensures awarded grants adhere to TRIUMF and sponsor policies and procedures.
Effectively communicates TRIUMF and sponsor administrative and compliance requirements, including program eligibility, to researchers, other administrative staff and external collaborators.
Provides assistance to researchers with award administration
Initiates and monitors incoming and outgoing sub-award agreements
Identifies the need for compliance reviews
Maintains grants and agreements database
Monitors and disseminates useful funding-related information, and assists researchers with queries.
Keeps updated on all Tri-Agency regulations and policies that apply to the sponsored project process; interprets agency-specific guidelines/regulations that apply to the proposal and award process.
Works with supervisor and researchers to assist in resource development.
Prepares information and documentation for stakeholder reporting.
Assists Senior Global Trade and Research Security Compliance Officer with controlled goods/export controls reviews and due diligence activities, as required.
Assists with the preparation of fee-for-service quotations to external customers, as required.
When required, assists with other tasks such as identifying KPIs, items for TRIUMF’s risk registry, and assisting with research-related policy/procedures development or amendment
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of rules, regulations and procedures relevant to the conduct of research, which could be strengthened through on the job training;
Knowledge and understanding of Canada’s Tri-Agency and other research funding agency programs, policies, rules and submissions process;
Excellent organizational, project management and time management skills;
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills;
Keen attention to detail;
Ability to execute and follow through;
Flexibility to deal with changing priorities;
Ability to interact productively and professionally with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders;
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting;
Ability to use database, word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Familiarity with grant writing best practices an advantage.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
University degree and a minimum of three years of related experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Courses in science administration or business would be an asset.
Experience in research grants administration in an institutional setting (post-secondary, government or agency) is preferred.
Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident).

Salary Information: $61,900 – 77,400
