Prep school teachers demonstrate passion and diligence in their core subjects and interdisciplinary learning, across the Humanities, Sciences, Languages, Physical Education, the Arts, English, Design and Mathematics. Their role involves planning, reviewing and revising curriculum as part of department teams, as well as implementing approaches to teaching and learning that are student-centered and skills-based.
We seek an enthusiastic and experienced MYP teacher who will work with Year 6 and 7 students and within our Prep School Design department. Form Advising (Homeroom teacher) may also be included in this role. Co-curricular duties are also included in this position (e.g. VEX IQ Robotics club coordinator and coaching).

Key Responsibilities and Tasks
Academic
- Prepare and implement course objectives, outlines, lesson plans and assessment pieces for MYP 1 and MYP 2 Design following IB and College guidelines;
- Employ best practices for teaching students at the middle school level;
- Communicate regularly on student progress with faculty, administrators and parents;
- Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, assemblies and various professional development opportunities;
- Collaborate with the Learning Leader of Design, teaching partner(s) and our IB Coordinators to develop and reflect upon units of work;
- Collaborate with colleagues within the department and beyond, with humility and openness to feedback on all aspects of the role, including students, parents and colleagues.
- Participate fully and collaboratively in a shared approach to the Middle Years Form Advising programs, weekly routines and processes.
Advising
Advisers meet with their advising groups daily. These meetings consist of formal and informal discussions focused on enhancing student experience through learning, reflection and connection. The adviser is the point person between families and the school, with an eye on a student’s overall progress and wellbeing.
- Meet with advisees during daily advising sessions, deliver the advising curriculum, and offer explicit support with organization;
- Actively engage with students in their advising group to know them and support their growth in academics, co-curriculars and the social-emotional realm;
Curricular, Coaching, Supervisory
- Lead with skill, passion and enthusiasm within our co-curricular program, including the arts, coaching and/or intramural games;
- UCC students benefit from a robust co-curricular program including athletics. Many teams have the opportunity to participate in weekend and CAIS tournaments. Some CAIS weekend tournaments are out of province;
- Supervision duty as assigned;
- Coverage for classroom teachers, as needed;
- Participate in the FLEXtime program;
Job Requirements
Experience, Knowledge and Competencies:
- A Bachelor’s degree (B.A., BDes or BSc);
- Experience working with students in the Junior and Intermediate grades;
- Maintains accurate records, plans assessments within policies, utilizes learning management systems, and demonstrates subject matter expertise;
- Willingness to adapt and change lessons and assessments based on the unique and diverse needs of their students;
- Demonstrates commitment to justice, fairness, equity, and values diversity to create an inclusive community, addressing issues related to bias and prejudice;
- Possesses a collaborative disposition, excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- Designs lessons to address diverse needs, styles, and interests, fostering problem-solving and lifelong learning;
- Demonstrates an ongoing commitment to personal growth and professional development;
- Experience utilizing a variety of innovative technology tools & processes;
- Commitment to a learning and working environment that is safe, healthy, meaningful, engaging and supportive;
- Background in introductory programming, specifically Scratch, mBlock and/or Python;
- Background in digital media tools, specifically audio, video, and graphic design software;
- Background with digital design tools like Corel Vector, Affinity Designer, Adobe Illustrator and Tinkercad is an asset;
- Background in the use of various hand and power tools;
- Experience with 3D printing and laser cutting software and hardware is an asset;
- Experience with MYP Design and/or International Baccalaureate program is an asset;
- A Bachelor of Education is an asset.
