About the Role:
The Indigenous Practice Specialist drives holistic practices and systemic change regionally, focusing on advancing child intervention for Indigenous communities. This role ensures compliance with Indigenous legislations and policies, build community relationships, and creates safe environment for children and families across northern Alberta.
You will implement and enhance Child Intervention Casework practices, guiding staff in applying federal, provincial, and regional directives. Through coaching and mentoring rooted in frameworks like Signs of Safety and trauma-informed practices, you will support staff in achieving successful outcomes. Your role includes developing training programs and collaborating with stakeholders to prioritize projects that benefit children, youth, and families.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Social Work and 2 years related experience
- Knowledge and experience working with Indigenous communities
- Knowledge and experience using Signs of Safety philosophy and practice
- Demonstrated knowledge of Child, Youth, and Family Enhancement Act (CYFEA), Signs of Safety.
Hours of Work:
Monday to Friday, 36.25 hours per week (full-time)
Location:
Successful candidate may reside in any part of North Region and attend the Children and Family Services office nearest to them.
North Region locations include: Athabasca, Barrhead, Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Edson, Fairview, Fort McMurray, Grande Cache, Grande Prairie, High Level, High Prairie, Hinton, Lac La Biche, Peace River, Slave Lake, St.Paul, Valleyview, Vegreville, Westlock, Whitecourt.
Application Requirements:
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Ability to travel from home location for up to one week.
- As per the Health Professions Act, successful applicants must: be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) to be eligible for this position, if:
- They have a degree in social work from any university in North America that is accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education (CASWE) or the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE); or They have graduated from an approved social work diploma program in Alberta;
- They have, within the last five years, been a registered, certified or licensed social worker in another province or with a member of the Association of Social Work Boards
