Arctic Gateway Group LP (AGG) is an Indigenous and northern communities-owned transportation and logistics company headquartered on Treaty 1 Territory in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Through our operating companies, Hudson Bay Railway Corp. (HBR), Hudson Bay Port Corp. (HBPC) and the Churchill Marine Tank Farm Corp. (CMTF), we provide transportation and logistical support to a growing variety of customers and industries.
Our operations are geographically dispersed throughout Northern Manitoba with several remote locations and employees.
We are seeking an experienced Human Resource Manager who excels in driving organizational success. The incumbent will possess a robust background in implementing effective HR initiatives, with a strong emphasis on workforce development and fostering a positive workplace culture.
Key Areas of Responsibilities
· Recruitment and Onboarding – Oversee all stages of hiring process
· Workforce Planning and Development – Define and implement hiring strategies to ensure the right talent is in place and to ensure effective and successful training programs are in place
· Employee Retention – Implement retention strategies, particularly for hard to recruit positions
· Diversity & Inclusion – Foster a diverse and inclusive workforce, that includes Indigenous engagement and recruitment
· Labour Relations & Union Management – Work closely with management and unions to negotiate fair contracts, resolve disputes, and maintain a positive labour-management relationship
· Workplace Grievances – Administer employee’s complaints and grievances in accordance with labour laws and collective bargaining agreements
· Partnership & Inclusion – Create opportunities for local employment and ensure that company policies respect the interests and rights of Indigenous people and communities
· Compliance and Regulatory Adherence – Ensure compliance with federal and provincial employment laws, occupational health & safety standards and environmental regulations particularly related to transportation and maritime operations
· Culture Building – Foster a corporate culture that aligns with the company’s goals, values, and the unique needs of operating in a northern isolated environment
· Employee Engagement & Relations – Develop initiatives to keep employees motivated, connected and engaged despite being geographically dispersed
· Performance Management – Facilitate, monitor and develop performance management processes
· Training and Development – Create and monitor training materials and their effectiveness
· Compensation and Benefits – Manage employee compensation structures and standards
· HR Policies and Procedures – Create and regulate HR policies adhering to legislation and labor laws
· HRIS and Record Keeping – Utilize HR Information System and employee records tracking
· Health and Safety – Promote workplace safety in compliance with organizational safety protocols
· HR Projects – Planning and execution of special projects
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
· Minimum 3-5 years of progressive HR experience with preference in a unionized environment
· Experience in the transportation, logistics, or related industries is an asset
· CPHR (Chartered Professional in Human Resources) designation preferred
· Strong understanding of labour laws and HR best practices, with ability to apply current industry standards effectively
· Familiarity with Manitoba-specific employment regulations
· Knowledge of Indigenous employment practices and cultural awareness
· Proficient in HRIS systems, focusing on accurate record-keeping and compliance with policies
· Advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
· Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
