Finance Manager

Finance Manager

Reporting to the First Nation Manager, the Finance Manager is accountable for the financial administration, management, documentation, reporting and financial activities of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation (MSIFN) and its subsidiaries including Minogi Corporation, the First Nation’s clean energy and infrastructure investment arm and Noozhoo Nokiiyan Limited Partnership, the First Nation’s economic development driver. Additionally, the Finance Manager will implement and monitor standards that comply with financial legislation and guidelines established by federal and provincial funding agencies, MSIFN Financial Administration Law (FAL), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other applicable laws and regulations.

The role will be best served by a hands-on, dynamic leader who brings depth and breadth of understanding within the field of accounting and finance to develop and implement strategic planning, frameworks and financial and accounting processes, systems, tools, and services. This knowledge will be paramount in the preparation of financial statements; assisting in the development of annual budgets and forecasts; participating in the annual audit for MSIFN, oversight of investment activities, as well as ability to apply financial knowledge and analysis capabilities to support decision making across the organization.

 

Hallmarks of success for this role include leadership, knowledge, expertise, and recommendations to ensure adequate financial policies, procedures, operations, and systems are in place and provide leadership and mentorship to the Finance Team. Already known for providing sage advice and for leading high performing teams that deliver excellence, the likely candidate will possess the following:

 

  • University degree in Business Administration, Economics, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Accounting Designation (CPA) is required.
  • 5 years of senior leadership experience within a minimum of 10 years of total related experience, preferably in a First Nations’ environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and $1M liability insurance.
  • CPIC and VSS acceptable to MSIFN upon conditional offer.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Native culture, traditions, teachings, community dynamics.
  • Knowledge of legislation governing First Nations.
  • Advanced computer skills: SAGE, payroll, word processor, spreadsheet, email, internet.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS).
