Klaas and Alice van der Wal run a family farm located in the hamlet of Homewood, Manitoba. The mixed
beef farm has approx. a 40 cow/calf herd and approx. 425 acres with wheat, soybeans, and oats. They
are currently in need of a Farm Manager (NOC 80020) (1 vacancy).

Salary/benefits: $ 23.00 per hour, 4% vacation pay
Position Summary: Reporting to the farm owner, the Farm Manager will be responsible for the day-to-
day operation of the farm.
Duties include:
– Manage the day-to-day overall operations of the farm
– Determine the amount and kinds of crops to be grown and livestock to be raised and discuss
with farm owner
– Organize, plan and co-ordinate planting, cultivating and crop harvesting activities, raising and
breeding of livestock
– Perform daily general farm duties (feeding, calving, seeding, etc).
– Determine when veterinarian should be called
– Determine when custom farm services are needed
– Determine with farm owner if and when to purchase farm machinery, livestock, seed, feed and
other supplies
– Maintain farm machinery, equipment, buildings and farm yard
– Develop and keep production records
– Draft a marketing plan and request approval from farm owner before implementation.
– Assist farm owner to determine if, and when additional farm personnel is needed
Requirements:
– Extensive farming experience with livestock and crops is required
– Experience with decision making processes as a farm manager or farm owner, is an asset
– Able to problem solve, make sound management and daily operation decisions and oversee
consequences
– Be able to work independently, while reporting to and willing to abide by final decision of farm
owner
– Be able to evaluate decision making process with farm owner and willing to adjust processes, if
needed
– Operation of (heavy) farm machinery and equipment in a safe manner is necessary
– Ability to carry out maintenance and repairs on farm buildings and equipment is necessary
– Physical fitness to be able to lift up to 100lbs to feed the cattle
– Class 1 drivers licence would be an asset
– Due to the nature of the position, successful candidates may be required to be flexible with their
hours of work
– Be able to communicate effectively in the English language
