Director CFS

Reporting to the Tribal Administrator and with accountability to the Board of Directors, the Director CFS is responsible for the overall leadership of the delivery of a collection of Child Intervention (CI) programs and services. This includes programs and services provided and by contracted external program providers, therapeutic campus-based care facilities, and foster parents. Stoney Child + Family Services supports the three Stoney Nakoda Nations’ communities of Bighorn, Eden Valley and Mini Thni.

The Director CFS provides leadership by implementing strategies and procedures that ensure quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives are carried out, including adherence to standards. The Director CFS plans and forecasts to ensure cross-training and back-ups are available to sustain consistent and continuous program and service delivery. Stoney Nakoda Child & Family Services is considered an essential service, so this role assumes a rotational on-call schedule to ensure the Category-4 needs of clients are met on a 24/7 basis.

Key Attributes

·        Comprehensive knowledge of child intervention practice, quality
assurance systems development and environmental issues
impacting the delivery of services, including Indigenous models
of intervention.

·        Flexibility and adaptability to be called in to address a broad
range of operational situations and issues and make decisions on
how to proceed.

·        Broad and comprehensive knowledge about relevant CI
legislation, strategic priorities and goals, and operational
processes.

·        Exercise knowledge of the Stoney Nakoda Culture, protocols and
approaches that can bridge CI programs and services.

·        Broad knowledge of Signs of Safety and tools along with practical
experience.

·        Practical and theoretical knowledge of Indigenous history,
issues, and aspirations with knowledge of Metis, Inuit and First
Nations Governance.

·        Ability to anticipate and lead teams in response to organizational
changes or operational events

·        Knowledge of organizational and change leadership theories and
management styles and human resources management.

·        Strategize and create effective operational plans including
financial, technological, and human resource components.

·        Fiscal management including budget and forecasting
procedures, contract and procurements including negotiating
and evaluating agreements.

Education & Experience

·        Graduate/Undergraduate degree (e.g., humanities, public
administration, social work)

·        Master of Social Work is preferred

·        Several years’ experience in delivery of CI programs and services
as well as experience managing teams in multi-stakeholder
environments; an equivalent mix of education and experience
will be considered.

·        Working knowledge of governance with First Nation
communities is required

·        Robust understanding of First Nation community and family
structure, customs and traditions
