Established in 1989, Seafood City is a U.S.-based chain of full-service supermarkets with 32 locations across the United States. We specialize in Filipino food and products, while offering a growing selection of imported Asian goods and North American staples. Each store contains a food court, which offers a variety of freshly prepared Filipino dishes.
Seafood City launched its first Canadian store in Mississauga, Ontario, in 2017. Due to its resounding success, Seafood City has opened additional locations in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Calgary Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, and Scarborough, Ontario.
To support the continued growth and success of our Winnipeg store, Seafood City Supermarket is looking for one experienced Cook to join our team. You will be working at our Winnipeg store, located at 2311 McPhillips Street, Winnipeg, MB, R2V 3C9, Canada.
This is a permanent, full-time position, based on 40 hours per week, with occasional overtime.

Position
You will be responsible for preparing and cooking fresh Filipino dishes on behalf of the supermarket’s food court customers. Your duties will include the following:
- Participate in training of new cooks and other kitchen staff;
- Prepare authentic Filipino dishes such as Kare-kare, Mechadong Manok, Mechadong Baboy, Nilagang Baka, Sabaw ng Bulalo, Pinoy Bistek, Laing na Dahon ng Gabi, Dinengdeng, Pinakbet or Pakbet, Pinapaitan or Papaitan, Binagoongang Baboy, Escabecheng Isda, Tinolang Manok, Adobong Manok, Adobong Baboy, Adobong Manok at Baboy, Beef Tapa, Pork or Chicken Tocino, Daing na Bangus, Sinigang na Isda, Sinigang na Baboy, Sinigang na Baka, Bopis, Kandinga, Dinuguan, La Paz Bachoy, and Apritadang Manok;
- Cook specified portions of food items as instructed by the Head Cook;
- Prepare dishes according to company standards and procedures;
- Operate and maintain large-volume cooking equipment such as grills, deep fryers, micro steamers, Chinese Wok, convection and conventional ovens, food processor, slicers, etc. in accordance with safety and sanitation standards;
- Adhere to prescribed workflow, operating cycles, and work schedules;
- Maintain inventory of food and supplies;
- Observe strict food safety standards and regulations in the handling and preparation of dishes;
- Clean and sanitize work area and equipment in accordance with health and safety standards and regulations; and
Respond to customer inquiries, as required.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who can meet the following minimum requirements:
- Completion of secondary school;
- At least three years of commercial cooking experience;
- Experience in preparing authentic Filipino dishes such as Kare-kare, Mechadong Manok, Mechadong Baboy, Nilagang Baka, Sabaw ng Bulalo, Pinoy Bistek, Laing na Dahon ng Gabi, Dinengdeng, Pinakbet or Pakbet, Pinapaitan or Papaitan, Binagoongang Baboy, Escabecheng Isda, Tinolang Manok, Adobong Manok, Adobong Baboy, Adobong Manok at Baboy, Beef Tapa, Pork or Chicken Tocino, Daing na Bangus, Sinigang na Isda, Sinigang na Baboy, Sinigang na Baka, Bopis, Kandinga, Dinuguan, La Paz Bachoy, and Apritadang Manok;
- Experience using large-volume cooking equipment such as grills, deep-fryers, micro steamers, Chinese Wok, convection and conventional ovens, food processor, and slicers;
- Manual dexterity for cutting, chopping, and plating;
- No allergies to food items, ingredients, and cleaning products;
- Able to stand and move quickly for multiple hours;
- Able to carry up to 25lbs and occasionally lift up to 50lbs; and
- Basic ability to communicate in English (spoken and written).
Compensation
We offer a competitive compensation package, which includes the following:
- Wage: $15.80 per hour, based on 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week (wages are subject to periodic and incremental raises)
- Overtime Rate: $23.70 per hour, after 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week
- 10 days of vacation per year
- Roundtrip transportation costs for out of province applicants
- Private health care insurance coverage for out of province applicants (equal to the Manitoba provincial health insurance plan) until such a time that the applicant is eligible for Manitoba provincial health insurance.
