Chapter Lead, Infrastructure Architecture and Engineering

Team & Job Overview  

In 2020, senior management presented to the Board of Directors an integrated digital strategy and transformation roadmap to meet the long-term corporate aspirations of EDC. The strategy has been approved by the Board of Directors and is now in start-up mode. Most recently, a centralized transformation office (TO) has been created which incorporates all orchestration, change, culture and technology teams. TO employees are empowered to deliver impactful solutions and sustainable change to our exporter platforms and employee experience, while evolving ways of working and bringing the exporter at the center of the design cycle. EDC now seeks a tenured leader to ensure we build and sustain a technology infrastructure architecture capability to enable and shape the modernization of technology infrastructure at EDC.  This capability is essential to ensure that technology infrastructure supports not only current technologies & applications at EDC, but to ensure our modernized technology infrastructure provides the digital capabilities required to support EDC’s transformation objectives. ($350M+ Transformation).

EDC seeks a tenured leader to lead a team of infrastructure architects and engineers.  By promoting new ways of working, you’ll optimize our technology infrastructure so that it enables the transformation and related business outcomes.  Are you someone who is seen as an infrastructure architecture and engineering expert? Then come join our Technology Operations & Services team as a Chapter Lead, Infrastructure Architecture and Engineering, reporting to the Director, Infrastructure Platform Chapters.

This is a role that entails the following: 

  • Responsible for growing and sustaining a team of technology infrastructure architects and engineers who are deployed to various squads accountable for building, operating and maintaining technology infrastructure.
  • Have deep infrastructure architecture and software engineering expertise in the context of on-prem, cloud and hybrid together with proven coaching skills.  They will be responsible for building capability in cloud architecture and engineering, increasing efficiencies within their organization, working closely with product squads and other IT Chapter Leads.
  • Provide people management leadership by hiring the best talent, setting goals, developing staff, managing employee performance and compensation, promoting teamwork and handling disciplinary actions.
  • Strong understanding of the Agile framework and ways of working at EDC, to be able to appropriately coach and train the practitioners in their Chapter.
  • Working closely with your leader, contribute to the overall business management of Technology Infrastructure at EDC.

Key Responsibilities  

  • Builds, leads, and coaches a high performing team of Technology Infrastructure Architects and Engineers
  • Grow team expertise to align with business/enterprise demand and direction, assess team skills and capabilities and continually look for ways to provide and enhance the value delivered.
  • Contributes to building standards, for architecture and engineering, in partnership with other relevant chapters and ensures consistency of practices for these disciplines at EDC.
  • Hires, evaluates, and provides guidance and training as necessary to develop team members.
  • Coaches team members and supports with hands on execution to mentor/coach as required, ensuring performance management activities are undertaken and providing regular inputs via Quarterly Check-in’s and development plans.
  • Enables a continuous learning environment, identifying ways to strengthen the team’s capabilities in providing architecture services.
  •  Facilitates and fosters a Community of Interest/Practice that engages members to use their knowledge and network to develop the chapter expertise and build on the community across EDC.
  • Understands the future infrastructure architecture and engineering requirements of EDC, for example the move to Cloud, and develops/adjusts the required capabilities for their disciplines.

Screening Criteria 

  • Undergraduate Degree with a specialization in technology or informatics.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience and expertise in defining technical infrastructure & services for all stacks in Cloud and Hybrid environments and in defining services like DEVSECOPS.
  • Knowledge of Agile principles, practices and ways of working
  • Experience in working with Managed Service Vendors & related SLAs, SLOs.
  • Minimum 5 years’ leadership and change management experience
  • Exceptional collaboration, communication and influencing skills
  • Proven experience in tech fluency and business fluency
  • Bilingualism in both official languages (French and English)

Assets 

  • Knowledge of Azure, Google Cloud, Amazon Cloud

Location:

  • This position could be performed in Ottawa, Montreal or Toronto. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates as our working model is hybrid

Salary

Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from; $105,031 – $140,041 plus a performance based incentive.
