ATG Cyclotron Operator

The Applied Technology Group (ATG) at TRIUMF operates three compact cyclotrons for the production of medical isotopes.  The group consists of 30 operators, engineers, technicians and managers.  We are looking for a Cyclotron Operator to join our team and work in this exciting environment.

 

The Cyclotron Operator is responsible for the safe operation of ATG’s isotope production cyclotrons. They also participate in maintenance, repair activities as well as projects. Works a rotating shift schedule.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The ATG Cyclotron Operator’s principle responsibilities are:

Safe operation of all accelerators, target stations, the target transfer system and subsystems in the isotope production facilities
Safe operation of the building control system and the nuclear ventilation.
Troubleshooting and performing maintenance and repairs of cyclotrons systems and related equipment
Performing safety related functions (surveys) as required
Keeping a thorough and clear documentation as it relates to the operation of the isotope production facility.
Taking part in projects to improve the reliability and performance of equipment.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Safety awareness, good mechanical and electrical aptitudes. After receiving the formal on-the-job training, good technical knowledge of accelerator systems and analytical skills are required for this position. Flexibility to deal with changing priorities and systematic, reliable response to critical situations are essential. Good interpersonal and communication skills are also required.

 

NUCLEAR ENERGY WORKER:

You will be required to successfully complete the TRIUMF in-house radiation safety training course and be designated as a TRIUMF Nuclear Energy Worker.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

Graduate from a relevant engineering technology program at a technical college in mechanical, electrical, mechatronics or robotics, or a relevant undergraduate degree in related science or engineering discipline. At least one year of experience in operations, or a combination of equivalent education and experience with electro-mechanical systems.

 

Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident).

 

COMPENSATION:

The position offers an initial salary range of 41,600 – 52,000 per annum, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package. Upon successful completion of a 6-month training program, the salary range will be increased to 48,400 – 60,500 per annum, in addition to the ongoing benefits.

 

 

As a requirement of this position, the successful candidate will need to provide acceptable proof that they have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19, or demonstrate that they are unable to be vaccinated against COVID-19 for reasons protected under the BC Human Rights Code. TRIUMF will grant reasonable accommodation requests up to the point of undue hardship.
