Exciting Opportunity: Archaeology Referrals Coordinator with K’ómoks First Nation!
Are you passionate about preserving cultural heritage and making a positive impact in your community? We are looking for a detail-oriented and dedicated Archaeology Referrals Coordinator to respond to archaeological referrals, review and issue permits, and coordinate fieldwork for the K’ómoks First Nation. This is your chance to contribute to the stewardship of our rich history while collaborating with various stakeholders!
What You’ll Do:
As our Archaeology Coordinator, you will play a key role in ensuring compliance with archaeological policies and fostering collaboration among diverse groups. Your responsibilities will include:
Referral Management: Handle incoming archaeological referrals and inquiries via telephone, email, mail, or in-person, directing them to the appropriate channels for timely responses.
Database Keeper: Maintain and organize the referral database, files, and correspondence to ensure efficient information management.
Communication Liaison: Work closely with proponents, government agencies, NGOs, and consulting archaeologists to ensure compliance with the KFN Archaeology Policy.
Field Coordination: Organize and coordinate archaeological fieldwork for KFN Guardians, bringing traditional knowledge into practice.
Research Expert: Conduct research on referrals and prepare necessary summaries to support decision-making processes.
Permit Oversight: Manage permit requests, ensuring thorough follow-ups and KFN monitoring as required.
Support Role: Assist the Director with reports, briefing notes, presentations, and minute-taking for meetings.
What We’re Looking For:
A community-centric team player with a passion for preserving history and culture.
Strong planning and time management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
Knowledgeable about traditional knowledge, mapping, and information management.
Familiar with the Heritage Conservation Act and archaeological permitting processes in BC.
A clear understanding of provincial and federal resource management regulations.
Emotional intelligence and excellent interpersonal skills to establish positive relationships with staff, Council, knowledge keepers, and external stakeholders.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, database management, and GIS skills.
Qualifications:
A minimum Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, such as archaeology, natural resources, or environmental sciences.
At least 2 years of archaeological field experience in British Columbia.
